Help for Racine Homeowners Facing Foreclosure

RACINE COUNTY – Local homeowners facing foreclosure will have another option to keep their homes through a new mediation program that’s expected to begin next month.

Borrowers in Racine and Kenosha counties who have defaulted on mortgages can go through the formal mediation with their lenders, according to a press release issued Wednesday by Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser. Summons issued beginning July 1 will include information on the new option, District Court Administrator Andrew Graubard said.

Each participating lender or borrower pays a $100 fee, so no tax dollars are needed to fund it, according to the release.

Racine County judges participated in the planning. Officials expect about 20 Racine County cases per month to be referred, said Jennie Tunkieicz, assistant to Kreuser.

Kenosha County will oversee the program, which must be approved by its County Board. Once the program begins, people can call (262) 653-2592 or visit foreclosure.kenoshacounty.org for information.
